These wild tom turkeys (Meleagris gallopavo) live in the Sierra Nevada Mountains of Northern California. They are the largest game birds found in this area. Surprisingly turkeys can fly up to 1/4 of a mile and can fly 60 miles per hour. At night they fly up into the trees for safety from such predators as the coyotes and foxes.
While mating the male turkeys will fluff out their feathers and drag their wings called "strutting".
